Founder Matthew Chow was raised in the exciting shopping capital of Hong Kong where he learned as a teenager the leather trade in his parents business. While studying abroad in Melbourne, Australia, the most desired city in the world, he audited many top Australia tanneries and leathergoods manufacturers and retailers. The personal dedication they showed to the raw material inspired him to launch his first collection into the boutiques and department stores of Melbourne.
For Matthew, creating leather goods is an intimate process. Before deciding on grain or thickness, he thinks about how a design will be used and where it will be worn. Once he’s ready to cut a pattern, he treats the raw material as a second skin. Completely opposed to an industrial approach, he guides the leather as if it were a living being.
International Chic with an experienced Touch.
After years of practice, Matthew has found that gently taming and suggesting shape yields the most elegant results. Even when he started small with totebags back in 1998, he always matched his meticulousness with curiosity. Travelling around the globe, he has studied various techniques and designs that have helped him cultivate a singular yet international style. Today, he has a few apprentices of his own and spends most of his time crafting with them in his HongKong studio. He still makes time to learn new techniques and exhibits at tradeshows all around the world.
